The District receives revenue from service providers doing business within its jurisdiction. These funds are directly used to purchase and maintain the 9-1-1 call handling equipment throughout the District. The relationship between the District and service providers is not only important for revenue purposes, but also to ensure customer phone records are accurately maintained within the 9-1-1 database, and the 9-1-1 infrastructure functions as intended.
The term service provider includes any voice services which can be utilized to contact 9-1-1 in an emergency. This can be either residential or business services provided by a traditional phone service carrier, 9-1-1 trunking, or VoIP products.
The current service fee rates for the District reflect a percentage of the monthly base rate of the principal service supplier, AT&T. The current rates are as follows:
Type of Service | new Service Fee |
---|---|
Residential | $0.72 |
Business | $2.70 |

Please note that VoIP subscribers are treated as landline and are subject to the rates listed above.
